This 1.5 mile trail begins in Homewood, off Tahoe’s west shore, and takes you up a steep path to the peak of Eagle Rock, where epic views greet you and photo opportunities await. A 360-degree view surrounds you with alpine forests, mountain peaks, and the beautiful lake itself.
Best for: Those looking for a short, one-hour adventure or families traveling with kids in tow.
Five Lakes Trail - Mild
The Five Lakes trail is another great option for those looking for a leisurely hike. You can find the trail nestled in the foothills of the Granite Chief Wilderness peaks just north of Lake Tahoe. It totals a distance of 5 miles out and back and begins in Alpine Meadows. You will reach a collection of pristine, high alpine lakes, and revel in the outstanding views of the valley below as you gain elevation.

Spooner Summit to Kingsbury Grade - Moderately Difficult
Off the upper East shore, the Spooner Summit section of the Tahoe Rim trail begins near Glenbrook. This moderate to difficult trail is an 11.7 mile section-to-section portion of TRT. Pass through forest and granite rock, and revel in the stunning views across the lake. Be prepared for a 2,135-foot elevation gain, but rest assured that the rewarding vistas at the summit are well worth the climb. Pack a lunch to enjoy on the bench at the top! The alpine lakes make this region the perfect destination for overnight trips and backpacking as well. In fact, the Echo Lakes Trailhead is one of the most popular areas for this. For a short day hike, Upper Echo Lake can be seen in an easy 5-mile round trip adventure that begins near South Lake.
