Fireworks and a '60's Sweater Party at the Chamois in Squaw Valley were just two of the events that kicked off the start of the Olympic Heritage Celebration (January 8-17) on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe.
Events are planned throughout this week into next, including ski tours of the different courses used for the Olympic Games, not only on Squaw Valley, but also of the cross-country trails recently restored over by Sugar Pine Point State Park. In honor of the anniversary of the Olympic Games, the local high school nordic teams will be having a race on Friday on the same trails the Olympians used in 1960. There will also be a biathlon competition on Saturday.
More events are planned at Squaw Valley this week, including hockey and figure skating exhibitions, a wine tasting with Peggy Flemming, and the Olympic Legends GS Challenge on Saturday. In addition to these events, there will also be a temporary museum exhibits displayed at the different sites, and variety of dinners and lectures on the history of these Olympic Games.
