As the weather warms up in Tahoe, so does the event calendar. Our springtime sunshine, corn skiing conditions, dual sport days, and packed event calendar will immediately remind you why we are known as the Spring Skiing Capital. Don't miss these signature events and festivities in North Lake Tahoe & Truckee.
NASTAR National Championships at Squaw Valley, April 4-7
The Liberty Mutual Insurance NASTAR National Championships weekend is packed with events, concerts, clinics, awards ceremonies, autographs, and, of course, races! NASTAR was started in 1968, and today is the largest grassroots ski racing program in the world. With over 100,000 races at over 100 resorts, participants are scored based on a proprietary handicap system. This system allows competitors to measure their scores against family, friends, and US Ski Team athletes.
Celebrate the NASTAR Racing Series Championship, April 4-7, when the top recreational racers in the country converge for four days of festivities and ski racing. You’ll have the opportunity to meet and get autographs from U.S. Ski Team members and NASTAR pace setters. An awards ceremony for the champions is held on Sunday in the Village, where you’ll be able to watch the top recreational competitors in the country receive recognition for their race performance. Throughout the weekend, there is free live music in the village, including Con Brio, Poor Man's Whiskey, Old Salt Union, and more! Plus, there will be raffles, parties at the Squaw restaurants and venues, and other festivities that are fun for all. This is sure to be a classic spring weekend of skiing and fun at Squaw Valley | Alpine Meadows, the Spring Skiing Capital!
Spring It On at Northstar, April 5-7
Celebrate Spring It On at Northstar with a weekend celebrating the season in style with retro dress up, music, the annual pond skim, and a passholder beer walk. On Saturday, crazy costumes are encouraged. Dust off your retro ski gear, the brighter the better, and enter the costume contest. Then, head to mid-mountain for everyone's favorite spectating event, the pond skim. Or, you can even enter ... if you dare! Watch as skiers and snowboarders attempt to glide across the icy waters without falling in!
Earth Day at Squaw Valley, April 20
Each year, Squaw Village hosts an Earth Day celebration, free to the public, with hands-on activities for all ages, and fun for the family! Celebrate Earth Day in the Village at Squaw Valley with live music, raffles, and a performance by the Reno World Dancers. The Village fills with educational and interactive booths that explore new ways to recycle and reduce waste, up-cycled crafting, and a popular compost zone, where you’ll get your hands dirty learning about biodegradable materials. You won’t want to miss the “Trashion Show” hosted by the Truckee High School Envirolution Club. This lighthearted fashion show showcases apparel made from waste--everything from food wrappers to packing materials. As each outfit is modeled, spectators learn how they can reduce, recycle, or eliminate these products that so often end up in the waste stream. Live music by Serina Dawn and Coburn Station entertains.
