Looking for something family friendly, a little different, and full of great music and food? Truckee’s Craw Thaw, which is the first of what hopes to become an annual event, is just the place. On April 27-28, this New Orleans-inspired street party will fill downtown Truckee with live music, Cajun food, and family fun. All offerered for FREE!

The music line-up of Jazz, Americana, and Country bands kicks off at at 6:30pm Friday, shortly after the doors open, with guests The Easy Leaves and Jazz Mafia Accomplices. With rhythmic standup bass and thumping guitar, the Easy Leaves bring a swinging feel, while still playing easy-listening bluegrass. It’s the perfect backdrop to grab some Cajun food or enjoy a beer.

On Saturday, there’s family fun from 12-5pm, including performances by Truckee High School’s Jazz Band and local kids’ dance performances. At 5pm, catch the films, starting with of “Untold Stories,” when local filmmaker, Tim Manning, will narrate with his behind-the-lense stories and tell tales of his professional snowboarding and film career. Film screenings will include “Life of Glide” about local Jeremy Jones, and others. It’s a great chance for visitors and locals alike to learn and hear about the iconic snow sports history of the Tahoe area.

To close the event, Miss Tess & The Talkbacks and Otis McDonald will take the stage Saturday evening. Time to kick up your heels and get your dance on! The event takes place mostly outdoors on Bridge Street outside of Moody's Bistro Bar & Beats in the cool, crisp, Tahoe air. Although the event is free, proceeds from food and beverage sales will benefit Moody’s Jazz Camp, a local non-profit that supports youth music education through Jazz.

This is sure to be a feel good event, with the chance to enjoy Tahoe and give back to a great cause.
