We wanted to send out a huge thanks to Homewood Mountain Resort for inviting our team out to spend the day experiencing the west shore's best kept stash of snow! Given the incredibly stormy conditions yesterday, we missed out on the mountain's famed lake views (although we got a quick peek between sets of storm clouds). And with 90mph winds on the ridge lines, our cat tour was cancelled for safety reasons. But, what we did experience was incredible. If anything, the takeaway was that Homewood was operating at almost 100% while other mountains had almost all of their terrain closed. Around a foot of snow accumulated throughout the day and the tree skiing was phenomenal. Protected from the winds and perfectly spaced for bountiful turns, the tree skiing at Homewood was unlike anywhere you will find in the basin.
During our (delicious) lunch, Kevin Mitchell, the GM of Homewood, spoke to us about the development plans for the mountain, including replacing the Madden Triple Chair with a gondola and the plans to break ground on the development project in 2017. Homewood Snowcat Advetures will take off in February, allowing guests to book snowcat tours that access over 750 acres of backcountry and offer runs of 1800 vertical feet from the top of Ellis Peak.
By now, we were pretty won over, but that didn't stop our hosts from topping off the day with apres ski cocktails and s'mores at the West Shore Cafe.
Overall, spending a day in untracked powder, feeling like you have an entire mountain to yourself, with no lines anywhere...when everywhere else is closed: AMAZING.
Thanks, Homewood!
