There’s no better way to ring in the new year than a trip to Tahoe with the family. Start 2019 off right with a celebration in North Tahoe or Truckee. Check out a few of our favorite family-friendly New Year’s Eve celebrations happening in this area this year.
Champagne Toast & Last Run of 2018 at Homewood Mountain Resort
Toast to the great turns of 2018 and look forward to more snow on the way in 2019. Homewood invites skiers and riders to meet at the Big Blue Bar mid-mountain at 3PM for a champagne toast paired with great views and even greater turns. Stay nearby.
Merry Days & Holly Nights at Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows
Squaw Valley/Alpine Meadows wraps up their holiday celebrations with unforgettable New Year’s Eve festivities. The last day of 2018 starts with an opportunity to ski with Olympic Gold Medalist Jonny Moseley and if skiing with an Olympian doesn’t tire you out, you won’t want to miss The World’s Largest Torchlight Parade. Ski down the 3.2 mile Mountain Run with your very own LED torch, while attempting to break the world record for the largest torchlight parade! Squaw is also hosting a family-friendly New Year’s Eve celebration with live music, carnival games, and fireworks at 9PM. Stay nearby.
Fire & Ice New Year’s Celebration at Northstar California
If you can’t (or don’t want to) stay up until midnight, celebrate at Northstar. Ring in the New Year on east-coast time at the Northstar Fire & Ice Celebration. Northstar’s stunning fireworks show caps off a night of live music, ice-skating, and s’mores at the outdoor fire pits, which will be warming family and friends all night long. Stay nearby.
Tahoe Donner New Year’s Eve Celebrations
Tahoe Donner hosts some of the best family-friendly events around for New Year’s Eve. Kids 10+ will enjoy the Light Parade as they ski down the Snowbird run after dark. Kids aged 4-9 will enjoy a special Kids Night Out, where the little ones are encouraged to come in their comfiest clothes (think pajama party) and enjoy a night of games, food, arts and crafts, and a movie. Feeling adventurous? Take the family out on a guided New Year’s Eve Snowshoe Tour from 5:30-8PM. The tour winds through the groomed Tahoe Donner cross-country ski trails, and is followed by fireworks at the Tahoe Donner Downhill Ski Resort. Stay nearby.
We’re sure you’ve seen Keoki Flagg’s work around-and some of it is featured in our rentals. Keoki Flagg has become iconic in the Tahoe region for his stunning landscape and action photography, and we’re glad that he calls Squaw Valley home. His holiday party is hosted at his Squaw Village gallery on December 30, and will feature limited-edition photographs, meet and greets with the staff, and libations. Stay nearby.
Ring in 2019 with a cruise on iconic Lake Tahoe, cruising the waters on the also-iconic M.S. Dixie paddlewheel boat. The cruise takes off from the Zephyr Cove Marina at 6PM. The excursion includes dinner, dancing, live music, and views you won’t find anywhere else. Stay nearby.
Sunset Snowshoe Tour led by The Tahoe Adventure Company
Located in Tahoe Vista, the Tahoe Adventure Company offers daily guided sunset tours. Take in the fresh mountain air and enjoy one of Tahoe’s stunning sunsets before starting the night’s festivities. We can think of no better way to wrap up 2018. Stay nearby.
New Year’s Pancake Breakfast at Tahoe XC Center
We really can’t think of a better way to kick of 2019 than with some hearty breakfast foods followed by cross-country skiing. Enjoy a pancake breakfast at the non-profit Tahoe XC Center on January 1, followed by some cross-country skiing or snowshoeing. Dog-friendly trails are available. Stay nearby.
