The Happiest Time in Tahoe

Since 1982, the North Lake Tahoe community has come together every spring in celebration know as Snowfest. Now, 30 years later, Snowfest is celebrating it’s 30th year anniversary and after an amazing winter season we are excited for it to take over starting on Friday night! The ten day long celebration takes place all over the North Shore of Lake Tahoe and manages to lure almost everyone out of hibernation, even some of our furry friends. With ten days and nights of events there truly is something for everyone.

All of the local ski areas participate by hosting different snow events that range from torchlight parades, to Wacky Winter Human Bowling, to The Great Ski Race which takes the brave from Tahoe City to Truckee via cross country skis or snowshoes. If food and drink are your cup of tea, you will be right at home with the amount of different options you have during Snowfest. There is even an Extreme Food Challenge if you want to channel your inner Anthony Bourdain. Our favorite day here in the office is Parade Day. Startoff the day with a hearty Pancake Breakfast at the Tahoe City Fire Station, and then pick out a prime viewing spot for the parade. After seeing the Snowfest Queen and the Shovel Brigade go by (careful as they love to catch innocent bystanders with a “grease” kiss), grab a quick lunch at the Aloha Bar and Grill, which is located right along the parade route.

After lunch, head over to Garwood’s in Carnelian Bay to watch the Polar Bear Swim. This event brings out the heartiest of swimmers, those who are brave enough to plunge into the cold winter waters of Lake Tahoe in March. Feeling a little chilly yourself after watching? Warming up with a Wet Woody, and an early dinner by the fireplace in the bar of Gar Woods Pier & Grill is never a bad idea. With ten days and nights there truly is something for everyone. See you there!
